On Sep. 1, 2010, the signing ceremony for cooperation between Shanghai Jiaotong University (SJTU) and Jiangsu Jinsheng Group was held in Jintan, Jiangsu province to establish an advanced manufacturing technology and equipment research center. Over 170 people have attended the ceremony including employees from Jinsheng Group and faculty representatives from School of Mechanical and Power Engineering, SJTU. Jintan municipal committee, the municipal government and the University have attached great importance to the university-industry cooperation. Secretary of Jintan municipal party committee, Fang Guoqiang, Mayor Xi Wenbiao, Executive Vice Mayor Xu Xiaobo, executive vice president of Shanghai Jiaotong University Lin Zhongqin, deputy secretary of party committee Pan Guoli, deputy president of Science and Technology Development Research Institute Cao Zhaomin attended the signing ceremony.

Tao Yanmin, secretary of branch party committee of the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering presided over the signing ceremony. Xi Lifeng, executive vice president of the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering, and Zhang Yueping, president of Jinsheng Group signed the cooperation agreement. Municipal and school leaders together inaugurated the Shanghai Jiaotong University-Jiangsu Jinsheng Group advanced manufacturing technology and equipment research center. Executive vice president Xi Lifeng presented the letter of appointment on behalf of the School to President Pan Xueping to act as member of Development Strategy Advisory Committee. Pan Guoli, vice secretary presented commemorative gifts on behalf of the University to the Company, wishing Jinsheng Group a prosperous future of development. In his speech, Lin Zhongqin, executive vice president of the University commented that, Jinsheng Group is committed to innovation and development of high-tech production systems. The School of Mechanical and Power Engineering of Shanghai Jiaotong University can provide strong technical support for the Group, while the Group can also offer strategic suggestions and support to Shanghai Jiaotong University and the School. Therefore, the cooperation between Shanghai Jiaotong University and Jinsheng Group would promote common development of both sides, and be conducive to reinforce the win-win situation of the education-research-industry cooperation. Finally in his concluding remarks, Fang Guoqiang, secretary of Jintan municipal party committee, fully affirmed the cooperation between the two sides. He also described Jintan’s recent development and achievements, hoping that extensive cooperation with the Unviersity and the Group would help promote local technology and economic development.

Jinsheng Industry Holding Co. Ltd., founded in 2000, has 12 wholly owned and holding companies at home and abroad. It is dubbed the “top 100 private enterprises in Jiangsu province”, “National Key High-tech Enterprise”, “National Key Textile Industry Enterprise”, and is one of the most competitive enterprises domestically in the field of cotton opening and cleaning units and cleaning-carding machining. According to the cooperation agreement regarding the Advanced Manufacturing Technology and Equipment Research Center reached this time, Jinsheng Group would provide financial support annually to the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering of Shanghai Jiaotong University for the construction and operation of the joint Research Centre as well as its personnel training. Meanwhile, the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering would play its disciplinary advantage and focus on researching Jinsheng’s major core technologies in advanced manufacturing technology and equipment, to promote technical progress, develop high-tech industries and improve the capability of independent innovation.

The next day of the signing ceremony, professors of the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering of Shanghai Jiaotong Univesity and business leaders and technical staff of Jinsheng Group conducted an in-depth technical cooperation discussion and exchanged views. Professor Xi Lifeng, executive vice president of the School, introduced the development history and current situation of the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering as well as its disciplinary advantage. Professors from different research institutes and departments exchanged views on technical research themes and directions in their respective fields. Subsequently, leaders and technical executives of Jinsheng Group consulted and communicated with those participating experts and professors about problems and difficulties encountered in production and R & D. In a warm atmosphere of the exchange seminar, the two sides reached consensus on issues related with cooperation.
